Factory Approach for Testing Large Scale Projects

More and more companies need highly integrated business processes which implicate complex system architectures in order to fulfil the requirements of their customers. In addition to that, time to market should be reduced thus change requests have to be implemented within short time frames. The rollout of software in time, in budget and in quality is becoming a critical success factor for most of the companies. Testing can contribute a lot to a successful rollout.

The Test and Integration Centre (TIC) is an independent organisational unit, which provides systematic quality assurance for software projects within complex IT and business process environments. It minimizes the operational risk associated with major changes to the system stack, including migrations, modifications to technology or architecture. The TIC is responsible for the test management, all functional and non-functional tests; load and performance tests and test environment management.

The test process is documented in a high level test plan and reflects the ISTQB standard. A high degree of standardization is realized. For every test level entry and exit criteria are clearly defined. Test execution and generation of test data is automated.

A standardized test reporting is providing the customer a clear view on his business risks and is basis for all his decisions.

All testers are ISTQB certified. The resource pool can be adopted flexible to changes.

We will present an example of a TIC and discuss the most important key performance indicators (KPIs) of a test project.
